Swiss American Football blickt auf ein erfolgreiches Verbandsjahr zurück

Stabilisierte Verbandsfinanzen und die WM-Qualifikation des Flag-Nationalteams der Männer. Der Schweizerische American Football Verband (SAFV) hat den Turnaround geschafft.

Nach dem ernüchternden Jahresergebnis vom vergangenen Jahr ist die Stimmungslage 2025 eine ganz andere: Im Vergleich zum Vorjahr ist das Jahresergebnis um über CHF 100'000.- besser, was einen Jahresgewinn von CHF 19'777.48 zur Folge hat.

 „Nach einem finanziell schwierigen Jahr 2024 ist es dem Verband dank konsequenter Konsolidierung der Finanzen, einer klaren Priorisierung der Projekte und verbesserten Strukturen auf der Geschäftsstelle gelungen, die Trendwende zu schaffen und wieder auf eine solide Basis zurückzukehren“, erläutert Präsident Claudio Spescha

Olympia-Traum lebt weiter

Die Flag Football EM in Paris schneidet das Schweizer Männerteam auf dem sechsten Platz ab und hat sich somit für die WM im kommenden Jahr in Düsseldorf qualifiziert und ist damit weiter im Rennen um die Qualifikation für die Olympischen Spiele 2028 in Los Angeles. Auch die Frauen zeigen ein sehr gutes Turnier, gewinnen sechs von sieben Partien, der abschliessende neunte Rang widerspiegelt nicht das gezeigte, ist aber dem Modus geschuldet, somit werden die Schweizer Frauen leider nicht an der WM mit dabei sein. Die Hoffnungen auf Olympia sind mind. Theoretisch noch vorhanden.

Tackle-Nationalteam kehrt zurück

Dank der Initiative von Geoff Buffum wird Swiss American Football ab dem kommenden Jahr wieder eine Herren Tackle Nationalmannschaft haben. Die Nati wird an uropameisterschaft 2026/2027 teilnehmen und 2026 zwei Spiele bestreiten:

10./11. Oktober auswärts gegen Polen
24./25. Oktober zu Hause gegen Norwegen

Vereinsmutationen

Mit den Highland Horns und den Limmat Lightnings stossen zwei neue Flag Football Vereine zum Verband und im Tackle Football geben die Riviera Saints ihr Comeback.

Wechsel im Verbandsvorstand

Mit Elena Jasvoin (Finanzen), Torsten Hoof (Head of Flag) und Petra Lengyel (Marketing) haben drei Vorstandsmitglieder ihren Rücktritt erklärt, die vakanten Positionen sind noch nicht vollständig besetzt, mit Tanja Iseppi (Vizepräsidentin), Franz-Dominik Imhof (Finanzen) und Tommy Quansah (Marketing) konnten aber drei wichtige Positionen besetzt werden. Für die Position Head of Flag werden weiterhin Kandidat:innen gesucht.

Swiss American Football looks back on a successful year for the association

Stabilized association finances and the men's national flag team qualifying for the World Cup. The Swiss American Football Association (SAFV) has achieved a turnaround.

After last year's sobering annual results, the mood in 2025 is quite different: compared to the previous year, the annual result is over CHF 100,000 better, resulting in an annual profit of CHF 19,777.48.
 “After a financially difficult year in 2024, the association has managed to turn the tide and return to a solid footing thanks to consistent financial consolidation, clear prioritization of projects, and improved structures at the head office,” explains President Claudio Spescha.

Olympic dream lives on

The Swiss men's team finished sixth at the Flag Football European Championships in Paris, qualifying for next year's World Championships in Düsseldorf and remaining in contention for qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The women also had a very good tournament, winning six of seven games. Their final ninth place finish does not reflect their performance, but is due to the format of the tournament, meaning that the Swiss women will unfortunately not be competing in the World Championships. Their Olympic hopes are still alive, at least in theory.

National tackle team returns

Thanks to Geoff Buffum's initiative, Swiss American Football will once again have a men's tackle national team starting next year. The national team will participate in the 2026/2027 European Championship and play two games in 2026:
October 10/11 away against Poland
October 24/25 at home against Norway

Club changes

Three members of the Executive Board, Elena Jasvoin (Finance), Torsten Hoof (Head of Flag), and Petra Lengyel (Marketing), have announced their resignation. The vacant positions have not yet been filled, but three important positions have been filled with Tanja Iseppi (Vice President), Franz-Dominik Imhof (Finance), and Tommy Quansah (Marketing). Candidates are still being sought for the position of Head of Flag.
